Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Richard E. Carr for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-111A Pilot Weapons System Operator near Mu Chia Pass, North Vietnam on 13 January 1973. On that night, despite numerous surface-to-air missile firings during the radar bomb run and heavy anti-aircraft fire in the immediate target area, Captain Carr accurately acquired and executed his strike on the assigned target. The destruction of this target significantly aided in the interdiction of hostile forces resupply routes into South Vietnam. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Carr reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
